HANDS ACROSS AUSTRALIA SCHOOL COMPETITION 2011
GenerationOne is a national movement which aims to inspire every Australian, including our youngest citizens, to play their part in ending Indigenous disadvantage in one generation – this generation.
GenerationOne, together with the Australian School of Performing Arts (ASPA) invite all Australian schools to enter the GenerationOne Hands Across Australia School Competition. Hands Across Australia is GenerationOne’s catchy theme song, and this year, schools can either perform the song in its original format, or create their own artistic interpretation of the song; a new composition. Schools then create a ‘video clip’ of their performance to submit their entry.
How to enter
- Visit songs.generationone.org.au, go to the competition entry page and download the Entry Pack (available 30 May 2011).
- Either learn the song Hands Across Australia, or use the song to inspire your own original song composition. Create and film your performance.
- Write a statement of 150 words or less detailing what your school is currently doing to raise awareness of Indigenous disparity and end Indigenous disadvantage.
- Write a statement of 150 words or less about how you have worked in partnership to create your entry (if applicable)
- Submit your completed entry form and your ‘film clip’ to GenerationOne before 5.00pm Friday 23 September 2011 (AEST) by uploading to songs.generationone.org.au or mailing to the address at the end of these terms and conditions. Entry is free.
Categories
There are three categories.
Outstanding Performance
For schools that perform Hands Across Australia in its original format, using the backing track or their own musical accompaniment, and include an original rap section.
Creative Interpretation
For schools that have taken Hands Across Australia as their inspiration, and produced a creative interpretation which makes the song their own unique composition. Schools either need to include an original rap section, or may re-write their own lyrics as part of this creative process, provided the theme of ending Indigenous disparity in Australia remains.
People's Choice
Each entry will be automatically entered in our People’s Choice Award. Clips will all be available for viewing from Monday 3 October to Friday 14 October, and open to public vote. The winner of this category will be announced at the same time as other category winners.
